Freshwater Fly Fishing Questions
Freshwater Fly Fishing Knight Gobies and white cloud minnows?
Just went to favorite fish store where i trust the fish guy there, he has never b/s me before that i can tell, he knows how i am about aggressive fish and usually tells me if a fish i am looking at is a bad choice for my tank. I was liking the Knight Gobies, and told him they would be in with Zebra Danio's and White Clouds, he said they would be fine. i had five white clouds that were healthy when i put the two knight gobies in the tank. after 6 hours of them being in the tank i am down to two White clouds. my gues is that the Knight Gobies are eating the White clouds. they are in a 24g tank with one small mollie, two small flying foxes, two panda corydoras, two zebra danio's and now two white clouds. Are the Knight Gobies eating the White clouds and if they are how do i stop them from eating the rest of the fish. Should i just take them back?
How big are your white clouds? Knight gobies will eat small fish, but the knights only get to about 3", so I'd say either your white clouds are small (they should get to be about 2" as adult), they're hiding really well, you got a goby species other than a knight, or he ate them:

Your options would be to use a tank divider, get them a separate tank, or take them back and explain what happened.
Also, knights are territorial, so I hope you have an adequate tank size and/or a male & female goby.
A couple of Freshwater Fly Fishing questions.?
What type of tippet and fly's should I use for species in saltwater and/or freshwater in the Clearwater-Dunedin area. And if you know of any good places to buy most of my fly equipment. As you can tell I am new at fly fishing. I am getting all the info I can from smart(er) people like you experienced fly fishing people. Thanks so much! And have a great day/evening/night.

Pretty much I would like to know what to use to catch the species. (In the area I told you) (the tippets, fly colors, etc,)
You could also email me with extra answers. Like extra tips. (not related to the Q or related) Cause like I said I am trying to get as much info as I can. Thanks so much!

Fishingidiot-I answered some of what you asked already in your other Question! Go check it out!
Saltwater- You just can't beat a Clouser-Minnow in color "White/Green", "White", "White Red", for saltwater fly-fishing. They are inexpensive, (compared to other saltwater flys!), and you won't feel terrible when something cuts you off! (lol)
Pencil Poppers are excellent "search-flys" for Spec Trout, Spanish Macks, Jacks, and the occasional Redfish.
I usually make my own tippets/leaders out of 2-3 different sizes of flurocarbon. Take 14LB, 12LB, 10LB and cut them into 2 1/2-3 Ft lenghth. Tie them together with a bloodknot. PRESTO! You've got a nice in-shore saltwater tippet. This method is inexpensive, (compared to BUYING a new tippet every 3rd fishing trip). You can tie-up 3 or 4 before your fishing trip and keep them available for emergency's.
Most places in the Cleawater/Tampa area is gonna "gouge" you pretty good on fly-tackle. If your money-conscious you will either buy "online" or through a freshwater fly fishing catalog.
A good inexpensive novice saltwater reel and rod would be a Redington, Cabelas,Sage Discovery Series, 8-9 Wt and Scientific Angler system 2, Ross Reels, Etc.
I would not spend more than $125 on my rod and $120 on my reel. You MAY not like flyfishing and spending more would be silly. Just make sure your rod has an aluminum reel-seat AND your reel is aluminum with an "OK" drag-system.
Those Reds DO pull mighty hard! (lol) Ya wouldn't want to be "spooled" because you bought light-weight fresh water fly fishing gear!
Hope this helps ya? Good luck!
